How to get a Public Profile on Snapchat

Getting a public profile on Snapchat shouldn’t be too hard, and Snapchat has made it super easy to make your account public. Although you may be looking for a creator account, you will need to make your account public regardless before you jump into Snapchat stardom.

In today’s TechSplat article, we take a look at how you can get a public profile on Snapchat, and how you might want to enable this feature if you want to be famous on Snapchat. Let’s jump right into it.

How to get a Public Profile on Snapchat

Public Profiles in Snapchat is just another way of saying your account is discoverable. This means that anyone who might know your account or can browse through related stories for example – can see your story regardless of if they’re your friends or not.

When you sign-up for a public profile, you need to be at least 18 years old (on your Snapchat account) to allow for discovery, and therefore allow your profile to be set to public. There are also Community Guidelines that you need to adhere to, otherwise, your account could be restricted.

To set your account to public, follow the simple steps below;

  • Go to your Snapchat “Profile”.
  • Scroll down till you see the “Public Profile” section.
  • Here, tap “Create Public Profile” then follow the instructions provided by Snapchat to create your account for everyone to view.

Note: You may not see this option, or maybe disapproved after tapping through the stages if you’re under the age of 18.

Why you might want to be Public on Snapchat

In the day and age of social media, and almost 80% of people use social media in their lifetime, there’s no reason to avoid being public unless you appreciate your own privacy. In this case, then you may not want to use a public profile, but if you want to make some new friends, grow an audience or even grow your following on Snap, then having a public profile could be the best way to do this.

Creating a public profile is usually the first step to being a Snapchat “Creator” where you can have your own dedicated pages and extra features other than your profile, to make for easier discovery making you even more popular with Snapchat users.

How can you edit your Public Profile on Snapchat?

Editing your public profile on Snapchat is quite easy, and only requires a few steps. Follow the steps below to find out how you can edit your profile on Snapchat.

  • Head into your Profile – by clicking your “Bitmoji” and then “My Profile”.
  • Tap the “Public Profile” option under Public Profile, and then “Edit Profile”.

Here, you will find several settings you can change, including images, stories, bios and statuses, including the removal of your account should you wish to delete your open-for-all account from Snap.

What’s the difference between Public Profile and Creator Accounts?

A public profile on Snapchat allows for your account to be found by others, and viewed (such as Stories, information, bio, etc.) regardless of your friendship status.

This means that if you’re in a popular location and someone taps into your location, they will be able to see your story if you post it for the world to see.

In most cases, people can follow and add friends from these public profiles, but usually, if you want to move into a more branded, and slightly larger audience – then you may need a creator account. A creator account has features that are designed to allow creators to connect, grow, and speak to their audiences. This is more for your social media stars and other brands that may want you to follow them. There are specific requirements for the creator program, but these can be found on Snap’s website.

The trends start with Public Profiles, then adapted into creator profiles – until you reach the very top where “Snap Stars” come into play, which is verified, top-notch Snapchat users such as Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish, or brands such as Dell.
